Life Drawing Wizard of Oz Workshop:

The wizard of Oz is a film filled with vibrant colours, incredibly lively scenes and backgrounds which has so many things going on in it. This made drawing as the film moved on, incredibly difficult. Combining fast drawing and a variety of materials, several drawings were created in quick succession.
Creating a series of images in quick succession was incredibly fun, especially from a film which is so well known and so dynamic in the colours used. The emotions the actors also portray on their faces change every few seconds, making the production imagery very chaotic and fast paced.

This workshop was thoroughly enjoyed. It was not about being perfectly refined in the drawings. It was about drawing quickly and paying attention to everything on the screen as not to miss anything. Then to develop a larger outcome at the end of the session was exciting as it involved communicating what had been learnt in the session, as well as having a bit more time to focus on ideas more. I particularly enjoyed the layering of the second film into the work. Building in the huge skyscrapers and winding roads, across the corn fields and yellow brick road of The Wizard of Oz. I felt that it represented modern society as more and more skyscrapers are being built, destroying more and more natural landscape. I really enjoyed the energy of this workshop and the final outcome of the work.
